Lead Me God Psalm 139:23-24

Search me oh God and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.

What a prayer and what a promise! The Psalmist prayed and asked God to search his heart and to know his thoughts. Remember the Word talks about God’s thoughts not being our thoughts and our ways are not His ways. The Psalmist is saying much the same thing. He wants God to look at his thoughts and see if there are any wicked ways in his life. This is really not a question of “if there are any wicked ways” but rather a prayer of the Psalmist to show him his wicked ways.

How can you and I see our lives as God sees it? Well, we can see our lives in God’s Word. God’s Word sets the standard for our lives and all we have to do is take a look at the Bible to see our mistakes and our failures. People tell me that they have a tough time reading the Bible. My point is that the problem is not so much reading the Bible, the biggest problem is being able to handle what they do read!

When we read God’s Word and then come to Him in prayer, His Word and the work of the Holy Spirit in our hearts reveals the intent of our heart. When we begin to look at our motives and our attitudes, our thoughts begin to come into focus. For our decisions are the result of our thoughts. This is why making God’s thoughts our thoughts are so important. When we make God’s thoughts our thoughts, we begin to make decisions that are framed and founded by God Himself. When we make the right decisions in our lives, the direction that our lives take is the right direction.

Decisions determine direction and direction determines destiny. The Psalmist says, “Lead me in the way everlasting.” When we allow God’s Word to search our heart and try our thoughts, the result will be a life that only God can give. This life may not be exactly what we think it ought to be but you can be sure that it will be exactly what God has planned for it to be to accomplish all that He wants to accomplish in our lives and the end will be a home in heaven forever.
