Prayer and Expectation Matthew 6:33

31Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.



Jesus reminds us that God knows what we need and He has blessings in store for us that are beyond our expectation. Jesus uses the birds of the air and the lilies in the field to illustrate God’s careful attention to detail, Jesus says, 30Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?

The emphasis in the scripture is always given to God’s answer to our prayers. Everything God does for us is secured by prayer. Prayer puts us in touch with God. Prayer allows Him to touch us in return. Prayer is God’s way of reaching out to us with His blessings. Prayer always brings us an answer from God. If it doesn’t we need to examine the motive of our prayer.

Jesus tells us that we are not to worry about our needs; He tells us to worry about something that we can do and that is to seek God first and His righteousness and we will have what we need in life, plus some! God knows what we need to be happy and to live a fulfilling life. He knows what He wants to do for us. He wants to give us peace and joy so that our lives will be the absolute best they can possibly be.

All God looks for from us is a prayer of expectation. A prayer founded on faith in God in who He says He is and all that He says He will do is the kind of prayer that will change our lives and our communities for His glory and for His honor. All we have to do is come to Him in prayer and then watch Him do the rest! This is what the world needs to see and see they will if we will just pray and expect God to answer.
