The Way of Life Psalm 16:11

11 You will show me the way of life, granting me the joy of your presence and the pleasures of living with you forever.


When we look to God in prayer, He will be found! David knew this all too well. He knew that God would show him the way of life. David knew that God would grant him the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living in Him forever. There is no greater feeling than to know the joy of the Lord in our heart and in our lives. Nothing can begin to compare with that!

It is one thing to know the joy that God has for us but how do we find it and how can we have it? David tells us, "God will show us the way of life." Jesus said, "I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly." (John 10:10)

We are able to know the way of life through the reading of God's Word. Listen to Proverbs 6, "20My son, keep your father's command, And do not forsake the law of your mother. 21 Bind them continually upon your heart; Tie them around your neck. 22 When you roam, they will lead you; When you sleep, they will keep you; And when you awake, they will speak with you." God's Word becomes a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our paths as we open it and we read it.

Once we read the Word of God, we must apply it in our decisions. As a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path, we are admonished to follow on that path! Just because it is lit up, it does not mean we will follow. The choice seems pretty simple; we should walk in the light but the truth is the temptations are forever trying to get us away from the path where the light is not. As God shows us the path of life, our responsibility is to follow it.

As we stay on the path of life, God will grant us the joy of His presence and the pleasures of living with Him forever! What a precious promise this is from the Giver of Life himself! My prayer today is that we will all seek to follow Him and walk on the way of life together!
