10“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
Here is a very special word of instruction for us as God’s children. We all want to live a victorious life. We all want to enjoy life in all of its joy and all the happiness that we can experience and have for ourselves. Here Jesus gives us the key to having the life that we all want so much.
Jesus tells us 10“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. Jesus enjoyed life in all its fullness. Even in His death, He experienced life in all of its glory for the Bible tells us,. 13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
11These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Jesus mentions several time, “abide in Me” in John 15. What does it mean to “abide in Me?” This abiding in Jesus is the key to the life that we all want so much. To abide in Christ is more than living with Him. Abiding in Christ is an ongoing relationship with Jesus Christ.
One of the best illustrations of abiding in Christ is a digital clock. As long as the clock is plugged into an electrical source, it works. If the clock is unplugged and then plugged back in, it has to be reset so it will read the right time. Otherwise, it will start over at 12:00 and begin showing time from that point.
We are to abide in Christ; we are to stay plugged into Him every moment of our lives; we are to be plugged into Christ in every decision that we make. When we decide to go in our own direction or do what we want to instead of what Christ would have us do, we unplug ourselves from Him; we are no longer abiding in Him and our lives get out of sink with the Lord and His purpose and will for our lives.
Our lives have to be “reset” just like that electric clock. We spend so much time resetting our lives spiritually because we are not abiding in Christ. Most of us come and get a dose of Christ and then we turn Him off and on when we want Him in our lives! Prayer keeps us plugged into God and His will and way for our lives. Prayer allows us to remain connected to Him; prayer allows us to abide in Him and ironically it helps us keep His commandments so that His joy might remain in us and that our joy might be full. This life is worth the effort!
