Blessed Is The Man Psalms 1:2

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; 2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night.

David describes the man who is blessed as one whose "delight is in the law of the Lord." We all would like to have that kind of love for the scriptures but most of cannot say that our delight is in the Law of the Lord. As someone one time put it, everything that we want to do in our lives always seems to be illegal, immoral or fattening! When it comes to the scripture, our wants do not usually line up with what the Bible tells us we ought to do!

How can our "delight be in the Law of the Lord"? The Law of the Lord is the Word of God. So, as we learn to meditate on the Word day and night, it becomes our delight and our natural tendency to surrender to temptation is curbed. Remember, one of the purposes of the Holy Spirit is to teach us the scriptures and to help us remember them as we need particular scriptures at various times in our lives. As temptation comes, for instance, God's Word becomes a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path so that we might not sin against God. The more time we spend in the Word and on our knees, the stronger we become and the less sin has hold on our lives.

We all know that this is God's way for our lives but most of us still have a long way to go in getting there. How can our delight be in the Law of the Lord? Well, John tells us that the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. Jesus is the Word! So we could read "Blessed is the man whose delight is in the Lord and in Him does he meditate both day and night!" This is why faith is so important to life! Jesus is life. He is the One who gives us life. He is the One who gives life to us more abundantly. So, as we learn to walk with Him and talk with Him, we start to do things His way, which allows Him to give us life as He created it to be! As we do things His way and He gets to do the things that He wants to do for us, we start to learn that He is indeed everything that He says He is and that He will do everything that He says He will do! As we learn to walk in faith, God is able to bless us in incredible ways and our lives are blessed and we become a blessing to others around us as well as to God.

Meditating on the Lord both day and night is what we call having a personal relationship with the Lord! So, once again David could have written, "blessed is the man who has a personal relationship with the Lord." When we learn that God's purpose behind the scriptures is for our benefit and for our blessing, a relationship with Him does become more important to us! As we learn to walk with Him and He is able to do the things that He has planned to do for us from the foundation of the world, then our joy starts to well up on the inside and our cup starts to run over! Things that once bothered us now are hardly a concern. Despair and disappointment and defeat disappear. Our life is good. Our life is meaningful. Our life starts to touch the lives of others. How much more blessed could we be?

Ask God to help you meditate on His Word both day and night. Ask the Lord to help you learn to talk with Him. Ask God to give you the power you need so that you might not fall to temptation so that He might be able to do for you as He so much wants to do. Ask God to give you the strength to do the things that He would have you do so that your life might be its absolute best so that you might be blessed and that you might be a blessing to Him and to those around you! Life does not get any better than that!

Blessed is the man whose delight is in the Lord and on Him does he meditate both day and night!
