They Were Delivered Psalm 22:5

3But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded.

David had times in his life when he felt that God did not hear his cries for help. "Why are You so far from helping me?" David asked. He cried out to God in the daytime and at night. He had been taught to go to God when he faced difficulty. He had been taught that God would answer his prayers. He knew that God could heal the hurt that he had in his life. He knew that God could correct whatever was wrong in his life. He knew that God COULD do all that. The problem that David was experiencing was there were times when it did not seem that God WAS answering his prayers.

Why did David write, "3But thou art holy, O thou that inhabitest the praises of Israel. 4Our fathers trusted in thee: they trusted, and thou didst deliver them. 5They cried unto thee, and were delivered: they trusted in thee, and were not confounded." What is he trying to tell us in these few verses?

David is reminding us that God is able to deliver us from whatever is wrong in our lives at any moment. David knew that God had taken care of those who had trusted in Him who were before him and he knew that God would deliver him just as He had done for them. David tells us, God is Holy and He delights in the praises of His people. God wants to bless us so that we can bless Him and in doing so, He can bless us even more. God's intention is to create an unending cycle of the blessed one being blessed!

God has always been faithful to His people. He loves us with an everlasting love. Just as He delivered all those who have gone before us, so will He deliver us if we will come to Him in faith, believing that He is everything that He says He is and that He will do everything that He says He will do. David is looking to the Word of God for a Word from God that he would be able to stand on and live his life.

We can find the same thing for our lives today in God's precious Word. He has always been faithful to those that love Him and He is not about to change that now! That is the whole purpose for our being here in the first place. That is why God created us. He wants to bless us and make us a blessing to those around us. Live for Him today and let Him delight in your praises to Him! He will be glad that you did and you will be glad as well!
